Wrought iron staircase-Wrought iron is a durable material that will last for several years. However wrought reacts with moisture in the air and turns into iron oxide compounds that discolor the surface and impair the metal. Before repainting the wrought iron staircase, you need to remove as much of the rust as possible. Rust can be removed with a wire brush, file or sandpaper. You then close the surface of the metal with phosphoric acid. This chemical converts residual rust into iron phosphate, which does not deteriorate the metal. A gun metal primer is then applied to wrought iron and allowed to dry before painting with the finish paint in the desired color.
Antique Brass Finish
An elegant look of wrought iron staircase is to apply an antique brass. You can achieve this antique look with first preparing the railings recommended. As a finishing coat, using rust inhibiting dark golden or dark brass spray paint. Spread out the curtains to avoid getting paint on nearby surfaces. Spray primed railings with top coat and let dry thoroughly.
To create an uncommon look for your wrought iron staircase, use copper color topcoat. Apply two coats, allowing the paint to completely dry between coats. Then use a light green color to lightly brush and connections metal parts to simulate the “patina” that real copper develops with age.
